On August 29, Rabecca died after complications caused by the AIDS virus.

We at Think Humanity were heartbroken over the death of Ntamashakiro Rabecca, student at the COBURWAS Learning Centre in Kyangwali.
On August 29, Rabecca died after complications caused by the AIDS virus.
However, even in our grief we can find some joy, because Rabecca received six months of wonderful care, food, education and love at the CLC. Rabecca's last months were probably the best in her life because of the opening of the CLC February 2009.
Think Humanity would like to thank the Think Humanity managers, leaders of COBURWAS Club and teachers in Kyangwali for giving Rabecca so much love and care. We also thank Linda Kirscht, Rabecca’s sponsor through Think Humanity. We decided to donate the $100 sponsorship fee to the family members left behind. Her brother Seti, age four, is a student at the CLC.
Rabecca was a product of rape; her mother was raped by rebels in the Congo, and they gave her AIDS. Rabecca contracted AIDS from her mother’s breast milk and her mother later died from AIDS. Rabecca had been sickly most of her five years. Anti-retroviral (ARVs) are not available in Kyangwali. ARVs would have helped suppress the disease and given her the boost needed to her immune system, possibly giving her many more years of life. We are trying to find a way to provide ARVs in the future.
Thank you to all that donated on her behalf and that sent your sympathies and prayers. Thank you Program Manager/executive director of Coburwas Club-Ciyota, Wereje Benson for you idea of building a safe place for these orphans and refugee children where they can get a quality education. Thank you Amani Jean-Paul for all your work as project manager of the CLC, Daniel Muhwezi, Emmanuel Nsabimana, Kanizius Nsabimana and James Kazini for your love and volunteerism. Thank you teachers Lucy, Hariette, Adrine and Damien. Best Regards, Beth Heckel, Think Humanity
