CIYOTA main focus is Functional Education, responsible leadership and Social Entrepreneurship.
Why education?
Education is a key part in bringing real and lasting change and transformation in Africa. Most children from low income families lack access to education and of the few students who access it are not taught problem solving skills; they are simply expected to repeat what the teachers have told them and they never learn to think for themselves, making them ineffective and exploitative.
The role of education in eradicating poverty cannot be overstated. An education is perhaps a child’s strongest barrier to poverty.
It lowers birth rates, increases economic productivity and equips children with the skills necessary to participate in the workplace.
The power of an education continues to provide benefits to subsequent generations as educated adults tend to marry later in life, have healthier children, be more productive at work, receive better pay in the workplace and generally enjoy greater health.
Why leadership?
The continent of Africa has been plagued by successions of leaders only interested in their own personal status and wealth, breeding an environment of corruption and doing little to solve pressing social issues. This has plunged most Africans both young and old into a pool of problems such as absence of peace, abject poverty, poor education, high death rate to mention but a few.
Why Social Entrepreneurship?
Social entrepreneurship is required to tackle most pressing social problems in our communities-Africa.
"Social entrepreneurs identify resources where people only see problems. They view the villagers as the solution, not the passive beneficiary”. David Bornstein, author of How to Change the World: Social Entrepreneurs and the Power of New Ideas
